PRESS STATEMENT As the ASUU strike continues, lecturers in Obafemi Awolowo University have been divided because of the factionalisation of the union in the University. The Education Rights Campaign while we do not encourage factionalisation, except when it is based on matters of principle of the struggle, decries the problems that the factionalisation has caused for the students of the campus. The long overdue strike to demand that the Federal Government honor an agreement that it willfully entered into to fund education is by all means justified on the principle of workers solidarity. The consideration of members of the CONUA to ensure stable academic calendar that students keep going to class and break the strike with the help of their worker members, is not only a betrayal of this principle but also a self defeating position. It is obvious that the students cannot be examined on the classes taken by the ASUU members who have decided not to come to class in compliance with the strike...

About 182 graduates will receive First Class degrees at the 43rd convocation of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, out of 13,492 graduating students. The chairman of the ceremonial committee, Oluseye Bolaji, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Ile-Ife. Mr Bolaji, a professor, said that the convocation would involve graduates of the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 academic sessions. He added that the event would hold between December 11 and 14. Mr Bolaji added that the convocation lecture entitled, “University Education in Nigeria: Revisiting the Ife Dream,” would be delivered by a retired professor of History and Second Republic senator, Banji Akintoye. The committee chairman also said exhibition of research activities carried out in the faculties and units of the university would be unveiled as part of the activities during the convocation. (NAN)

Peter Oyebanji The Congress of the faculty of Law students, Obafemi Awolowo University,  had  reinstated the General Secretary, Eluyera Dipo, the Treasurer, Adeagbo Folakemi and  the Assistant Gen Secretary, identified as Oladapo. The executives were reinstated unconditionally at a congress of faculty of law students held on Wednesday. OAU KILONSHELE learnt that after a sitting of the parliament last week, Mr. Eluyera  was impeached while Ms Adeagbo  and Mr. Oladapo were for one week and three weeks respectively on the basis of misappropraition of funds and for not availing to the LSRC's panel of investigation. Alfred Olufemi Another meeting between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ended on Tuesday night without resolving the lecturers’ dispute. The meeting which held at the Federal Ministry of Education was to find a lasting solution to the ongoing strike by the university lecturers. At least two other meetings have been held between both parties before that of Tuesday since the strike began. The union embarked on the strike on November 4 over the poor funding of Nigerian universities and non-implementation of previous agreements by the government. Speaking with journalists after Tuesday’s meeting, the National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, said both parties are yet to reach a concrete decision. ”For now, we have started to discuss, we are yet to reach any concrete decision. Peter Oyebanji The Accounting Students Representative Council, Obafemi Awolowo University has impeached the association's  director of socials, Oparinde Tobiloba Emmanuel popularly known as "Phardolee".   This  decision was made in a sitting held on Saturday after series of complaints by students as regard the unavailability of the department's jersey. Mr, Oparinde Tobiloba Emmanuel was impeached in line with article 7 section 3(a) of the association's constitution. In a report released by the representative council, it was stated that the decision was reached after evidences obtained showed that Mr. Oparinde Tobiloba was guilty of gross financial misconduct. Oladele Adeola and Dansabe Kuni The  Medicine Students News Agency held a memorial lecture in honour of Eyitayo Adeosun, a medical student who passed on in his final year on Saturday. Mr. Eyitayo was a lover of literature and the former Editor in chief of the Medivoice(Medicine Students News Agency).
