SHORT STORY: Not Again!

Image
Peter Oyebanji A young man came in just when I was about to leave the hall, he was well-dressed in an expensive suit with a sleek shoe, he looked sophisticated and wealthy enough. People were shouting excitedly, I was lost, I don’t know him, how come? I was still thinking of staying or leaving when he picked up the microphone and cracked a joke, "at least he has a good sense of humour, it won’t be the worst of programme," I thought. He didn’t introduce his topic, he said some words blazingly. The accent, damn! I was still trying to recollect those words he put out when I heard “focus.” "Focus," he repeated. Before he started digging deep, he gave some examples. He talked about Warren Buffet, how being focused has been one of his drives. He shared a story about what Warren Buffet told his pilot, how he told him to list his top 25 career goals then told him to circle his top 5 goals. The pilot had two lists, the circled 5 and the 20 he had not circled. The pilot decid...

SHORT STORY: Are we ever going to be better than this?

Image
Adekanmbi Ademola "Determine your future and  work towards it." was boldly written ahead of us. We were over a thousand walking towards an unknown direction which according to the instructor, the route had not been plyed by anyone. We were blessed  to be the first set of people. We kept going and going without being tired neither were we thirsty.  We walked through different regions and paths with so much ecstacy and optimism with the untold eagerness of what the destination looked  like.    We went on and  we started reducing in bits but we did not care after the instructor told  us that the ones who left had got to their own places of delivering what they have been told to deliver.  We got to the gate where myself and two other people were to deliver and  the instructor looked at us and said;    "make sure you discover yourselves and follow your heart. Yes,people might tell you this is what is right but make sure you discover ...

Decentralization of Nigeria Police force; A Bold Step in a wrong direction.

Image
Ajose Gideon As I listened to both panelists discuss the NEC directive to a certain committee to give it's recommendations on the decentralization of the Nigeria Police force, I couldn't help but wonder when we would start doing things the right way in Nigeria. For the past one month it has been the one day, one problem in Nigeria with no solution in sight, the absence of the man from Daura has also given Nigerians a sense of hope because of the "window dressing" approach administered by the Ag. President in person of Prof Yemi Osibajo. From the deliberate drifting away to the major goal of #EndSARS to directing the IGP (who doesn't believe that SARS is a  menace to the society) to overhaul the Unit, yes we all saw what that could translate to and till now the SARS that were supposed to have ended went audaciously to arrest and detain a journalist while hiding behind a fraudulent court order. To the major point of discourse, I want to contribute my own quota to th...
